This month:  Push-Ups on a Physioball.

This is an Intermediate Advanced Exercise that should only be performed if you can already perform push-ups on the floor with good stability in your shoulder girdle and core.  It is great for strengthening your chest, shoulders, and triceps while challenging your balance and integrated core strength...not for the faint of heart!

  • Start in a plank position, hands on the floor, and put your legs on the ball. You can use push-up bars if you have problems with your wrists.
  • Stabilize your core by drawing your navel to your spine, squeeze your glutes together, and perform slow and contolled push-ups, lowering your chest to the floor.
  • Perform 12 to 20 repetions / 2 to 3 sets.
  • Stop when you feel any compensations...dropping your hips, arching your spine, "fish-tailing" of the legs.
  • Progress this exercise as you improve. You can place your shins or your feet on the ball to increase the difficulty.
